Overview
This post is a fixed‑term 6‑month, 0.7 WTE position in the Palliative Medicine team at Southampton General Hospital. The primary purpose is to provide structured training and supervised clinical development, while also contributing to service delivery in specialist palliative and end‑of‑life care.

Job Title: Senior Clinical Fellow / Junior Clinical Fellow / FY3
Start Date: 5th August 2026
Contract Type: Fixed term (duration 6 months)
No on‑call commitments.
Responsibilities
You will work with the Supportive and Palliative Care team, providing symptom control advice and support to patients in the acute hospital. You will attend and contribute to daily handover and team discussions, review patients referred to the team across the hospital, and develop your skills to conduct new and follow‑up patient reviews independently.
Qualifications & Requirements
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors and a named educational supervisor at the start of the post. The following is required for appointment to a Nodal Point 5:
* Minimum of 6 years of specialty training
* Relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
* A portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression criteria, aligned with the curriculum for the specialty (similar to deanery trainee)
Salary and Working Conditions
Salary will be based on experience and skills and will align with the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary plus any additional remuneration for hours as outlined in the doctors' work schedule (e.g., additional hours, weekend allowance, and enhanced pay hours). CPD is highly encouraged and supported, with options for study leave.
