We are seeking a Professional CSMU (Customer Service Modernization and Upgrades) Electrical Controls Engineer
This role is based in Grand Rapids, MI, with up to 50% travel to customer locations across the USA. Ideal candidates will have expertise in planning, schematic and panel assembly drawings, working with PLCs (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens), HMIs, VFDs, and implementing and commissioning engineering design projects.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading the design of semi-complex/complex systems integrating hardware and software.
* Completing schematics and control panel designs.
* Performing standard professional work, including material specification, schematic preparation, bill-of-materials development, and follow-up.

What You Will Do in This Role:
* Manage project budgeting, scheduling, tracking, and risk analysis.
* Work to meet deadlines, achieve budgets, and manage risks with team leads.
* Recommend ideas for productivity, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction improvements.
* Handle complex, less clearly defined professional work.
* Collaborate with internal divisions and external vendors.
* Solve complex hardware/software problems.
* Lead projects through their lifecycle, delegate tasks.
* Conduct site audits and gather site information.
* Review and report on site readiness and commissioning activities.
* Own the commissioning plan and schedule.
* Mentor less experienced engineers and guide installation teams.
Tasks and Qualifications:
* BSc/BA in electrical engineering or higher.
* 5+ years of relevant experience.
* Proficiency in Allen Bradley/Rockwell (expertise preferred); Siemens PLCs a plus.
* Experience with scanning devices and photo recognition technology.
* Proficient in AutoCAD.
* Knowledge of AC drives (Powerflex series).
* Experience with field device networks (Ethernet IP required, Profibus a plus).
* Basic understanding of UL 508/508A standards.
* Broad knowledge of the field, capable of handling complex assignments.
* Understanding of business practices.
* Ability to work independently and in teams across regions.
* Willingness to travel as needed.
* Strong problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, multitasking ability.
