About the Role
Cheshire East Council is seeking a committed and skilled Social Worker to join our Children’s Social Care team. You will work within statutory frameworks and local policies to assess needs, manage risk, and deliver high-quality care planning for children, young people, and families.
Your role will focus on improving wellbeing, promoting independence, and ensuring children are protected from significant harm where necessary. You will also contribute to service development and work closely with multi-agency partners.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake assessments of need, including risk identification and safeguarding interventions
* Develop, implement, and review care and support plans for children and families
* Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver coordinated services
* Manage a varied caseload in line with statutory requirements and service priorities
* Maintain accurate and timely case records and documentation
* Participate in supervision, training, and professional development
* Contribute to service improvement and share professional knowledge
* Support and supervise students or junior staff where required
About You
We are looking for a motivated and resilient professional who can manage complex caseloads while maintaining high standards of practice.
Essential Requirements
* Degree in Social Work (e.g. BA/BSc Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent)
* Social Work England registration
* Experience working in a statutory children’s social care setting
* Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and care planning
* Understanding of relevant legislation including Children Acts and fostering regulations
* Ability to manage risk, prioritise workload, and work independently
* Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
* Confidence working in multi‑agency environments
* Competence with IT systems and case recording
* Ability to work under pressure and manage change effectively
* Commitment to valuing diversity and promoting inclusion
* Willingness to travel across the borough and work flexible hours when required
Desirable Experience
* Work with looked after children
* Experience supervising or supporting foster carers
* Mentoring or supervising staff/students
* Delivery of training or group work
* Use of information systems in social care settings
