SEN Learning Support Assistant
to join welcoming schools in
Southampton
. This role involves working closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, and social-emotional challenges. Your role will be to help pupils feel secure, confident, and able to access learning in a structured and nurturing environment. Youll work with teachers and SEN staff to deliver personalised support that makes a genuine difference to each childs progress and daily experience. Whether youve worked in care, SEN, support work, youth work, mentoring, or youre a psychology/education graduate, this role offers meaningful, hands-on experience that can shape your future career.
The Role:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for children with SEND Help students stay focused, manage emotions, and build independence Support personalised learning activities and adapted classroom tasks Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and social development Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment Offer reassurance, structure, and consistent guidance throughout the school day
Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (formal or informal) Background in care, SEN, youth work, support work, or mentoring is highly valued Psychology, criminology, education, or health & social care graduates encouraged Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient Strong communication and teamwork skills Genuinely passionate about helping children succeed

Position: SEN Learning Support Assistant Location: Southampton Start: ASAP Hours: Full-time/Part-timePay: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour Contract: Long-term/Short-term/Ongoing
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience supporting children is desirable but not essential Safeguarding training can be provided Understanding of SEND strategies beneficial
Eligibility:
Right to work in the UK Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) Two professional references
