About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Production Engineer to join our growing friendly team, at Niftylift. The role is based at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes.
We offer competitive pay rates, excellent working conditions, 25 days holiday which increases with service, plus bank holidays, a healthcare & benefits scheme, 5% contributory pension, a death-in-service life insurance scheme, a profit-related bonus scheme, and subsidised refreshments.
Niftylift Limited is one of the world's leading privately owned designers and manufacturers of mobile elevated work platforms. Our customer base is global, with products sold and locally supported in over 40 different countries. This success is comprehensively supported by a team of over 600 full-time staff members across our three UK 'centre of excellence' manufacturing sites in the UK.
The Senior Production Engineer will support an allocation of existing assembly lines in achieving the current and forecast output volumes. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining production processes and procedures, evaluating, developing, sustaining and providing resources to achieve current and forecast output volumes within their allocated area of responsibility, and will support the manufacture of the Company's existing and new product range by generating effective engineering information, systems and manufacturing processes whilst championing the implementation of a successful Lean Manufacturing culture.
Main Tasks of the Role:
* Define & sustain required lean space allocation & layout plan for allocated value streams, to achieve current and forecast output requirements. Maintain existing CAD layout files, and where changes are proposed develop and present next step layout CAD drawing and final layout CAD drawing.
* Define & sustain required lean structured step process documents (sequence, task, parts, consumables, tools, health and safety requirements, standard/core times and set up and run cycle times for each task step), for each allocated value stream process, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Define & sustain required lean balanced (time/people and plant/equipment stages of capacity) operations through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements. Including flexibility for different reduced output rate speeds (where applicable).
* Define, implement & sustain required lean and safe (risk assessed) simple/easy-to-use presentation methods/formats, based on reduced skill requirements, work instructions / Standard Operation Procedures for each structured process step document stage. Taking into account meeting the engineering specification/quality standard required, at the lowest cost, for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Define, implement & sustain required lean at point-of-use logistics/storage requirements, media/hardware, and system for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Define, implement & sustain required lean / financially justified tools, equipment, and plant/machinery for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Define, implement & sustain required lean consumables for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Define, provide & sustain lean manual standard core times for each process step/stage - 'Value added times' plus 'Necessary non-value added times' less 'Unnecessary Non-Value Added Times'. Inclusive of plant and equipment lean set up and cycle run times, for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Maintain VM data (MRP) structures and fields, including engineering master/works order structures, resources, standard times, operations/legs etc. data for each product routed to the allocated value stream.
* Perform & sustain required risk assessment/health and safety requirements for each operation/stage, through each process flow step/task and work instruction defined, to provide safe processes for each allocated value stream step/task
* Review and identify where there is potential for automation to be financially justifiable for introduction within the operations/stages of the process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements.
* Audit/review process adherence and process improvement for existing & new process operations to remove the seven wastes, for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements slings/beams,
* Define, scope/design & sustain required jig, fixture, lifting (slings / beams) and production aid requirements for each operation/stage through each process flow for each allocated value stream, to achieve current and forecast output requirements. Note: Support from outside providers and internal team members to be assessed, where required.
* Effective stakeholder meeting support for all allocated areas/lines of responsibility.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven skills, knowledge, experience, and expertise in developing and supporting new and existing production lines and plant equipment.
* Level 5 qualification in related engineering, or 5 years demonstrable experience.
* Demonstrated working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma in the manufacturing field preferable.
* Formal training in Lean/Six Sigma would be preferable.
* Demonstrated engineering/manufacturing experience.
* Excellent analytical skills combined with good negotiation and conflict management skills with proficiency in computers would be beneficial.
Characteristics:
* Adaptable to accept new changes in the field of production engineering.
* Strong organisation, planning, and implementation skills.
* Ability to identify problems and resolve them quickly.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Self-driven with a positive attitude.
* Result oriented.
