The Role:
As a Lead Physicist, you'll be responsible for radiotherapy physics on site, serving as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) involved in treatment, dosimetry, calibration, and QA of the Linac and equipment.
You will manage maintenance and issues with engineers, oversee radiotherapy treatment planning and dosimetry, lead service improvements, and make a meaningful impact on patient care and your career development.
What You'll Do:
* Serve as the radiotherapy Medical Physics Expert (MPE) on site, collaborating with clinical staff to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery.
* Handle unusual or complex treatment plans, ensuring proper communication and documentation.
* Gain comprehensive understanding of the patient pathway to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
* Train and review clinical staff in QA, machine maintenance, dosimetry, and treatment planning, maintaining up-to-date records.
* Oversee calibration of the Linac and dosimetry equipment, ensuring traceability to NPL standards.
* Manage all QA activities for equipment and imaging devices on site.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of physics and dosimetry services across centres.
* Liaise with engineers for maintenance, repairs, and downtime management, including out-of-hours work.
* Maintain detailed records of downtime, failures, and maintenance activities.
* Take scientific and technical responsibility for patient dosimetry and treatment planning, ensuring compliance with policies and staff competence.
* Support treatment planning and dosimetry activities, including plan-checking and cross-site support.
* Work with the RPS to ensure radiation protection standards are met.
* Maintain ongoing professional development in line with standards.
What You'll Have:
* Extensive clinical experience as a Radiotherapy Physicist, recognized as a Medical Physics Expert.
* Proven experience with Linac QA and dose calibration.
* Desirable: experience with Elekta LINACs, Mosaiq, advanced IMRT/VMAT planning, Pinnacle TPS, MRI, 4DCT, Stereotactic/SABR, FFF MV X-Ray dosimetry, and UK private sector experience.
* Strong problem-solving, organization, teamwork, and communication skills.
* Ability to teach and explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis.
Qualifications and Knowledge:
* Registration with the UK HCPC as a Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy and MPE status, or suitable equivalents.
Other Requirements:
* Willingness to travel between centres and work outside standard hours as needed.
