About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist to join the Older People's Community Mental Health Team.
This vacancy has arisen following the retirement of the previous post holder and offers an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing, supportive, and innovative mental health service.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership within a well-established multidisciplinary team (MDT), delivering specialist psychiatric care to older adults with both functional and organic mental health conditions. The role includes community work across the Southport and Formby area, including domiciliary and care home visits.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of high-quality mental health care for older adults within the community.
* Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex cases.
* Work collaboratively with primary care, community partners, and other stakeholders.
* Supervise and support junior medical staff, advanced nurse practitioners, and trainees.
* Contribute to service improvement, teaching, research, and clinical governance.
* Participate in regular peer review and CPD activities.
Who We're Looking For
* GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register (Old Age Psychiatry) or within 6 months of CCT.
* Approved clinician and Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Proven leadership within multidisciplinary settings.
