Overview
Our client is seeking Police Emergency Call Handlers to join their Contact Management team. This is a critical role at the frontline of public safety, where you will be the first point of contact for emergency (999) and non-emergency (101) calls. Every call is different, and you will play a vital role in assessing risk, offering reassurance, and ensuring incidents are managed effectively.
This advert is to build a pool of candidates for upcoming training intakes in January 2026 and throughout the year.
Base pay range
£26,937 per year plus shift/weekend allowances | Nottingham, UK | Full-time | Permanent
Responsibilities
* Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with professionalism, empathy, and clarity
* Assess risk, prioritise appropriately, and record accurate information in line with procedures
* Provide reassurance and guidance to members of the public in crisis situations
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure an effective response
* Handle high-pressure situations with resilience, calmness, and sound decision-making
Training & Development
* Initial Training (7 weeks): Classroom-based learning at Mansfield Police Station (Monday–Friday)
* Live Call Training (6 weeks): Supervised on-the-job training at Force HQ
* Progression: Opportunities to develop into the role of Police Dispatcher after probation
You must be available for the full 13-week training period.
Requirements
* Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
* Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills
* Resilience and ability to manage stress in challenging situations
* Confidence using computer systems and multitasking effectively
* Ability to work rotating shifts covering 24/7 operations, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
* Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute (assessed during selection)
* Must have resided in the UK for the past 3 years to meet vetting requirements
* Access to wellbeing services, counselling, and staff support networks
