Job overview

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is looking for an enthusiastic caring person who is passionate about patient care to join our team in the X-ray Department at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford including rotation to our Community Diagnostic Centre, Stafford Park, Telford.

This post is varied and interesting with a rotation into different areas such as MRI, CT and ultrasound scanning as well as working closely with the general team and liaising with other departments.

The X-ray department operates a 24 hour service 7 days per week. Duties are 7.5 hours long (with a 30 minute break). There is some flexibility in the rostering of these as rostered days off and specific shifts can be requested in advance via the e-Roster (roster released 6 weeks in advance). Swapping of duties with colleagues once the roster has been released is also available.

The X-ray team are friendly and supportive, valuing all members. A full induction programme ensures that all new members are fully supported when joining us.

Main duties of the job

* Provide support and care to patients, relatives and visitors during their time in the Radiology Department.
* Help move and prepare patients safely for their X‑ray or scan, working closely with radiographers and other staff.
* Use hospital computer systems to record patient details and keep accurate paper and electronic records.
* Look after equipment, report any problems, and follow all safety rules, including those for radiation and infection control.
* Work as part of a busy team, communicating clearly with patients and staff, and helping during out‑of‑hours shifts when needed.
* Keep the department clean and safe, while maintaining patient privacy and staying calm in emotional or challenging situations.

Working for our organisation

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non‑clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high‑quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.

Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of HTP. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose‑built facility to improve patient care and team experience.

We are actively recruiting, and successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
