Protection Technical Sourcing & Standards Engineer
This role reports to the Technical Sourcing and Standards Manager within the Asset Management directorate at UK Power Networks, based in Crawley. It is a permanent position offering a salary of £80,574, plus a car and a 3% bonus. The role supports blended working arrangements (3 days in-office, 2 remote) after a 6-month probation period.
Key Responsibilities include:
1. Managing the introduction of new protection and control technology, supporting failure investigations, and liaising with procurement and operational units.
2. Developing and maintaining technical standards and philosophies for protection systems across the UKPN network.
3. Building relationships with internal teams and external partners, including manufacturers and suppliers, to ensure standards compliance and innovation.
4. Undertaking site visits, including to operational substations and manufacturer facilities, ensuring safety and compliance.
5. Contributing to asset management reports, statistical analysis, and regulatory submissions.
6. Supporting failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
7. Assisting in the development of training materials and providing technical guidance to colleagues.
8. Participating in ENA Protection assessment panels and collaborating on new product development.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
* Experience with electrical distribution systems up to 132kV.
* Knowledge of protection and control systems, international communication protocols, and web-based applications.
* Understanding of asset management, safety regulations, and standards such as IEC and ISO.
Health & Safety: Adherence to safety regulations and company policies is mandatory. Responsibilities include ensuring personal and team safety, environmental protection, and compliance with CDM regulations.
Additional Information: The role is classified as Mid-Senior level, full-time, within the Utilities industry, focused on engineering and IT.
