Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the Southwest offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other support needs. We aim to inspire hope and deliver change for everybody and every community we work with.
We are looking to expand our team of Bank Workers who can provide staffing support for our services in Bristol.
Our Bank Workers support those facing mental health challenges, housing insecurity and/or homelessness.
At this time, we are particularly looking to recruit individuals interested in work with our Bristol-based services on weekdays.
Our Bank particularly suits applicants who are looking for flexibility, enjoy variety at work, and are interested in expanding their skills and experience by working across different services.
This form of work can work especially well for those in further education – or with current responsibilities limiting the length of work they can commit to.
About You:
You will need to:
* Have at least 1 year’s experience supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties. This could include voluntary work.
* Be able to demonstrate empathy and a passion for supporting others.
* Be IT literate and comfortable recording information on a computer system.
* Be able to work on your own or as part of a team.
* Be good at building trust with the people you work with.
* Be a good communicator.
* Be able to learn and develop your skills at work.
What can you expect from working for us?
We offer internal training and eLearning, service inductions, regular 1-to-1s with our Bank Coordinator and access to our externally provided “Employee Assistance Programme”.
There are also opportunities for further career development such as access to internal job adverts for longer-term work.
Hours:
Hours made available on Bank will vary depending on our services’ needs and their operating hours. Some of our services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so a variety of different shift times could be advertised.
Location:
* Our Bristol services operate in various parts of the region – such Brentry, Southmead, St Pauls, Bedminster, Stapleton, Easton and more.
* Some of our Bristol services are site-based, with staff remaining in one location. Others involve travel around the community, so good access to transport might be needed for some work. Travel expenses incurred during a working day are paid.
* As a Bank Worker, you have no obligation to accept specific pieces of work. Therefore, you do not need to be able to travel to all our locations.
To discuss this opportunity, and how our Bank operates, please contact our Bank Coordinator, George at: / 07384 545314
Closing date: 21st December 2025
Interview date: We plan to shortlist and invite applicants to interview while this advert is open. We may close the advert earlier than the above date, should we appoint enough applicants.
