6 month contract – Inside IR35 Hybrid working – 2 days a fortnight on site £70.87 per hour umbrella / £60.13 per hour PAYE (inc. holiday pay) The Team: The Propulsion, Steering and Hull Mechanics Department is a specialist team of Engineers, who together provides the business with the capability to design all of the major structural elements that make up a nuclear submarine. For Hull Mechanics and Steering this includes pressure hull access, watertight doors, hatches & Scuttles, Mooring & Berthing, anchor, towing and control surfaces. The Outfit team cover furniture and fixtures to create a habitable environment for the crew to live and work in – includes cabin, galley and mess rooms. They also cover allocation and development of store rooms and stowages to meet the crew and other systems needs for space on the boat, internal and external insulation key plans to ensure the boats meet their acoustic and thermal requirements, creation of access routes for the crew to move between and also structural development of walkways to provide access to key pieces of equipment. The department also provides design and analysis services to other functions as well as systems engineering of the systems we manage. Key Responsibilities: Analysis and Design of complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and company standards, to support submarine build You will utilise your knowledge of specific regulations & requirements i.e. LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, geometric tolerance Responsible for interpreting Competent in computer based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics (Abaqus, Prokon, S-Frame) Supporting the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of Submarine Structures, Modules and Components Supporting towards production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands Responsible for approvals, checking analysis and outputs To be responsible for the satisfactory production of all information, as defined in the Quality Plan, contract specification and regulatory issues (e.g. Lloyd Rules, maritime coastguard agencies etc.) Lead of assessments in support structures, structural seats/foundations, fasteners and welds using a mixture of finite element analysis, in-house software, classical stress calculation techniques and application of standard code formulae. The production, maintenance and implementation of Production Engineering Department policies, plans, processes and guidance documents. Represent the Production Engineering Department, working in multi-functional teams to determine the best integrated solution, seeking supporting data and background information to effectively complete design activities. Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling and installation processes used within the business. Expert knowledge of the facility and site restrictions which apply to the shipping, handling, alignment and installation of hull units, large equipment and structures Lead the production of concept drawings, layouts and other technical outputs consistent with the contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands (Delivery to time, quality and budget). Expert knowledge of specific regulations and requirements i.e. LOLER, codes of compliance, Euro codes, weld specifications, geometric tolerancing. Competency and past experience in the use and interpretation of the computer based analytical techniques used by the department such as finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics. Skills: Expertise in structural steel analysis and Design. Experience of Timber and Concrete Design would be beneficial. Competent in undertaking Hand Analysis and Design Techniques including Report Writing. Fully conversant in use of Eurocodes and British Standards. Knowledge and Experience of Lloyds Rules, Naval Design and DNV would be advantageous. Competent is reviewing and checking of Design Outputs. Being able to demonstrate experience in steelwork detailing, including bolted and welded connections as well as geometric tolerances. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER Working knowledge of ABAQUS (Software), S-Frame Foran, MathCAD and excel Previous knowledge in a production environment - experience in a marine production environment advantageous Qualifications: Engineering Degree BEng/MEng or equivalent or equivalent experience Civil/Mechanical/Structural Based Member of Professional Institution – IMechE, ICE, IStructE.
