Main Purpose of the Role
The Headteacher will support and promote an educational vision which is consistent with the White Trees Group strategic direction. They will maintain and support the development of the conditions and opportunities which enable pupils and teachers to achieve effective learning, so that the school's aims and objectives are implemented in accordance with the policies of the governing body organisational vision.
The headteacher is accountable to the Directors of the organisation, governing body and Executive Head Teacher. The headteacher, working with the Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for evaluating the school's performance to support driving continuous improvement & development and raising standards; ensuring equality of opportunity for all; monitoring policies and practices; ensuring that resources are efficiently and effectively used to achieve the school's & organisations aims and objectives and for the day-to-day management of the school.
Duties and Responsibilities
Main Duties
Oversee all aspects of the day to day running of the school site alongside the leadership team in consultation with the Executive Head and at times, White Trees Group Directors
Support and uphold the White Trees Values and Ethos that set our organisation apart from others
Duties as requested by Executive Head and White Trees Group Directors
Support driving the School Improvement Plan
Contribute to the schools Self Evaluation Form
Ensure the site meets and runs in line with the Independent School Standards
Safeguarding Responsibilities
Be the DSL
Ensure all the pupils are safe and that their risk assessments are regularly updated in line with the company policies and procedures.
Oversee and ensure the robust and rigorous use of CPOMS in line with policy
Ensure all of the systems and policies are in line with the standards set out by the regulatory bodies who regulate our school
Ensure that every aspect of the day to day is in line with current standards or education set by our regulatory bodies
Ensure that the health and safety of the school and everybody with in it is held to the highest possible standards and that the systems we have for doing this are both robust and easy to follow
Operational Responsibilities
Ensure the site is running to the timetable, including pupils' bespoke timetables are in line with their pathway to fulltime, making sure that said timetabling is both robust and effective in terms of learning
Ensure that staff are being utilised as effectively as possible without compromising the day to day running of the school as a whole.
Make sure that the day-to-day reporting systems are followed and are useful with the data they capture and the data is stared safely
Ensure all information with in the school is stored safely and in line with GDPR standards
Working with the Executive Head to make sure that the school runs to its highest possible standard day to day and to address any issues
Support in the preparation and delivery strategic reports to the board of directors and the board of governors alongside the Executive Head
Ensure school budgets are adhered to and are fit for purpose
Work closely with the Exams Officer & Teaching Excellent Lead to ensure all KS4 are on appropriate qualification journeys and are registered for the correct programs to gain certification
Lead on Local Authority monitoring visits & Ofsted inspections
Oversee arrangements for end of term celebrations for staff and pupils
Oversee arrangements for termly celebration of learning and achievements
Liaise with parents and professionals effectively and efficiently to ensure positive working relationships are forged and maintained
Ensure practice is in line with all school policies
Drive and prioritise the use of school systems on a daily basis, class dojo, cpoms,
Support deadline dates across the sites, for reviewing ILP's, risk assessments, behaviour waves, impact risk assessment along with other key documentation
Teaching and Learning
Support driving the schools teaching and learning practices to ensure they are underpinned by the White Trees Core Values and Ethos
Uphold ambitious expectations for all our pupils who have additional and special educational needs
Ensure the school works effectively in partnership with parents, carers and professionals, to identify the additional needs and special educational needs and disabilities of pupils, providing support and adaptation where appropriate
Ensure the school fulfils its statutory duties with regard to the SEND code of practice
Ensure White Trees is at the forefront of learning in the use of innovative, effective and evidenced based teaching and learning practices
Work effectively with the SENCO to ascertain that every pupil in our school receives appropriate support and interventions personalised to their needs throughout their time at our provision.
Work with the Leadership Team on the school's use of Learning Data by ensuring assessment and tracking systems in place are regularly reviewed to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
Support overseeing and driving pupil day to day teaching and learning processes through regular review of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans
Oversee regular reporting of pupil's progress to parents and caregivers in line with school policies and procedures
Establish and sustain high expectations of behaviour for all pupils, built upon relationships, rules and routines, which are understood clearly by all staff and pupils
Ensure high standards of pupil behaviour and courteous conduct in accordance with the school's behaviour policy
Implement consistent, fair and respectful approaches to managing behaviour
Staff Management
Foster a culture that values the significance of emotional intelligence and empathy in building trust and meaningful professional relationships with the school community
Model adherence to the school standards and ensure that the team of staff who you are responsible for do the same by ensuring a culture of high staff professionalism
Ensure effective systems are in place to foster staff wellbeing and development through regular opportunities for consultation through supervisions and performance management
Prioritise the professional development of staff, ensuring effective planning, delivery and evaluation which is consistent with the approaches laid out in the standard for teachers' professional development
Support the Head of Wellbeing to make sure that the staffing training and inductions packages are being implemented and are regularly evaluated and updated as needed
Meet regularly with Executive Head and other Heads of the company to make sure that we have clear and consistent approach to the growth and evolution of the school
Make certain that any type of change or implementation of new systems is run by and agreed by the Executive Head and the Director of the organisation.
Ensure performance management programme of the staff team is effective, run on each academic yearly cycle, with targets relating to the School Improvement Plan and teachers' standards.
Monitor and ensure performance management meetings take place, along with regular supervisions.
Community Engagement
Forge constructive relationships beyond the school, working in partnership with parents, carers and the local community
Commit their school to work successfully with other schools and organisations in a climate of mutual challenge and support
Establish and maintain working relationships with fellow professionals and colleagues across other public services to improve educational outcomes for all pupils.
Communication
Engage in regular formal and informal meeting with the school team to plan and support in day-to-day activities
Facilitate meetings with individuals with in your team to help them with their development both in peer supervisions and also team meetings to discuss upcoming planning and learning from events historically
Ensure robust daily handover meetings take place and daily debrief meetings at the end of the day.
Planning
School diary events should be looked at and planned with the appropriate team members, focus weeks, summer camps & trips away should be pre planned and risked assessed to make sure that the safety of both staff and pupils are paramount in our thinking before such events take place.
Ensure that the organisation and its extended team are invited with good time to such events as leavers parties and sports days so companywide inclusion is formed as part of are ethos
Demonstrate understanding of the importance of communication with the wider White Trees Group community and embrace the support network that's established
Seek approval by the executive head and the owners & directors of the company in creation of new systems and processes
Facilitate better lines of communication within the school and the organisation, making sure that the executive head and anyone who would take your position in your absence understands and can complete this role until your return with ease.
Ensure staff undertake Keeping in touch visits in half terms in line with policy
Ensure that you have daily operations meeting with the relevant people in your team, deputy heads to make sure that lines of communication are clear
Utilise these meeting to plan and not only problem solve the here and now but to make sure that we are well organised for upcoming events in the near future
Person Specification
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in chosen subject (minimum 2.1 or equivalent)
QTS
Postgraduation qualifications in education or willingness to undertake further study
Experience
Minimum 10 Years teaching experience with demonstrated excellence, 3 of which at a Deputy Head level
Extensive experience in working with pupils who have SEMH/SEND
Experience of being a DSL
