Overview
What is the purpose of the job?
Reporting to the CEO/Founder or MD, you will be part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and serve as a strategic advisor and financial expert, partnering with various departments to drive business performance and profitability. Your role will involve financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and providing insights to support decision-making. Additionally, you will oversee the work of an Accounts Assistant, providing guidance and support in financial operations and reporting.
The Role
* Location: Clerkenwell, Central London, UK
* Employment Type: Permanent
* Salary: Up to £65,000 per year plus bonus schemes
* Hybrid: Mondays & Fridays work from home + 18 additional days a year (after probation).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis:
* Collaborate with SLT to develop annual budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
* Analyse financial performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
* Provide insights and recommendations to management to optimise resource allocation and improve profitability.
* Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making and business initiatives.
Business Partnering:
* Serve as a trusted advisor to SLT & Projects Team providing financial guidance and support.
* Partner with the Projects Team to develop budget strategies and assess project profitability.
* Actively participate in cross-functional meetings and discussions to provide financial perspective and expertise.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue growth, and process improvements.
Financial Reporting and Control:
* Oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly management reports, variance analysis, and KPIs.
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
* Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting transactions.
* Monitor and analyse key financial metrics to assess financial health and performance.
Team Leadership and Development:
* Supervise and mentor an Accounts Assistant, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
* Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring efficient workflow and workload distribution.
Process Improvement and Efficiency:
* Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, improve efficiency, and enhance internal controls.
* Implement best practices in financial management and reporting to optimise productivity and accuracy.
* Leverage technology and automation tools to streamline routine tasks and enhance reporting capabilities.
* Design & apply accurate and appropriate Finance systems, policies and procedures
Requirements
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
* Several years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in a marketing or advertising agency environment.
* Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
* Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software systems (Procim, Xero & Spotlight are preferred).
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across departments.
* Leadership experience and the ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
* Proactive mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
