EQUANS is looking for a Highway Inspector to join our team in Grimsby. This is a permanent, part-time role, ideally between Monday to Wednesday 8.30am to 5pm. We are flexible on hours for the right candidate. The salary is competitive, between £15,000 - £16,600, depending on skills and experience, along with a benefits package.
What will you deliver?
The individual will be part of a team responsible, under delegated powers, for ensuring the Local Authority discharges its statutory duties related to highway inspection, assessment, and maintenance to ensure safety for all users, considering safety, serviceability, and sustainability. This includes investigating breaches of planning and highway legislation per national and local policies.
Under delegated powers, the post holder will undertake systematic inspections, assessments, and maintenance of the highway network to support the statutory duties under the Highways Act 1980. Responsibilities include inspecting, assessing, and prioritizing reactive maintenance works to ensure highway safety, supporting legal defenses, and managing liabilities and risks.
* Inspect, investigate, and order works necessary to maintain highway safety.
* Follow legislation, policies, and standards to ensure consistent highway maintenance.
* Maintain accurate records for future reference and legal defense.
* Assist with processing third-party insurance claims, providing inspection records, and attending court as needed.
* Establish effective relationships with stakeholders including authorities, emergency services, and the public.
* Investigate stakeholder inquiries and advise on solutions to highway safety issues.
* Assist with FOI requests within prescribed timescales.
* Inspect work of contractors and ensure compliance with standards.
* Identify and report on major improvement needs beyond reactive maintenance.
* Provide advice and intervene in unsafe working practices.
* Assist with enforcement of relevant legislation and applications for construction crossings.

Who are we looking for?
* Knowledge of highway/civil engineering construction, maintenance treatments, and materials
* Methodical and systematic work approach with accurate record-keeping
* Professional, calm demeanor
* Self-motivated, able to work independently
* Experience with IT systems, databases, and spreadsheets
* Strong communication skills
* Commitment to continuous professional development
* Full driving license
