The UK Research Economist provides analyses of economic, policy, and political developments to assist Citi's clients and businesses in making informed investment decisions. The scope of analysis varies depending on current economic and political circumstances. The economist works closely with a global team, with specific responsibility for UK-related analysis, operating autonomously and providing thought leadership. The role includes supporting market strategists across asset classes. Citi’s research culture encourages excellence, creativity, and constructive debate, with constant client interactions involving institutional investors, corporations, private banking clients, and others. The economist represents Citi in client dealings, public events, and media appearances. Deliverables include published notes, presentations, and stakeholder engagements, emphasizing a client-focused approach and service orientation.
Responsibilities:
1. Produce insightful analysis of the UK economy, policies, and politics, focusing on factors driving currency, bond, and equity markets; explain policy events to clients.
2. Interact with internal and external clients as requested by Sales & Trading and other teams.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with Citi clients.
4. Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to other economists’ and strategists’ research.
5. Maintain constructive relations with policymakers and stakeholders.
6. Address client requests promptly.
7. Support Citi’s broader objectives, including recruiting and training junior staff.
8. Assess risks appropriately in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding Citi’s reputation, and escalating issues transparently.
