Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY

The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by anexperienced RGN within a primary care setting and in addition any roles agreedbetween the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to currenttraining. The post holder will use their own judgement, resourcefulness andcommon sense and show flexibility with regard to rotas and working patterns.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Skills:
Undertakeassessment and management of patients with chronic diseases according to areasof knowledge and responsibility.
Offeradvice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines areadministered under patient group directions.
Runningwell person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holisticassessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.
Assessingproblems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
Performa holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
Providea holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line withcurrent evidence based guidelines. Suture removal, Wound care / ulcer care
Requestingpathology tests for example urine culture, swabs
Offera holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice topatients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, foodhygiene, sun protection.
Ableto document Consultations according to NMC guidelines, at all times there willbe a need to maintain accurate records.
Obtainand document informed consent, (either verbal or written).
Awarenessof statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems ofreferral.
Abilityto recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
Ableto recognise, manage anaphylaxis in accordance to the current UKguidelines.
Ableto perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, in accordance to current UKguidelines.
Ensureinfection control guidelines are maintained.
Monitorand manage maintenance of stock (including vaccinations) and equipment toinclude refrigeration and emergency equipment.
Followagreed clinical protocols with referral to Senior Nurses or GPs as appropriate
Contributeto the assessment of service needs. Assist patients to identify their healthneeds. Contribute a nursing perspective to the Practice development plan.Manage and organise individual patient consultations. Aware of identificationand reporting procedures related to professional standards.
Other tasks will include:
Thenursing team are responsible for maintaining and cleaning equipment used by thenurses and GPs
Thenursing team are responsible maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking androtating items as required Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nursesand treatment rooms
Chaperoningand assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
Participatein any Practice meetings when required.
Onoccasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
Anyother delegated duties appropriate to the post
Identifychanges to clinical practice that are required to implement evidence-basedguidelines.
Personal/Professional Development:
Thepost-holder will participate in any training programme offered by the Practiceas part of this employment.
Thepost holder will be required to undertake all mandatory training required forthe role.
