Trainee High Intensity CBT Therapist – Peterborough

We are excited to be recruiting for a Trainee High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our NHS Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Talking Therapies Service. In this role you will undertake a fully‑funded High Intensity Psychological Interventions Post‑Graduate Diploma through the University of Reading. You’ll spend 2 days a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) studying at the university, with the remainder of your time gaining clinical hours and practical experience in our service under the guidance of experienced clinicians.

Program Details

* The University programme begins on 23rd February 2026 with two mandatory induction days (one online and one on campus). You will attend intensive teaching from 09:00‑16:00 three to four times a week for a 5‑6 week block. Most teaching will be on campus at the University of Reading.
* After the intensive block, teaching will be a mixture of face‑to‑face and online between 09:00‑16:00, usually on a Wednesday. Thursdays (09:00‑16:00) will involve University supervision and clinical skills sessions.
* Applicants must be able to commit to both the academic and clinical components of the course.
This role is not eligible for sponsorship as it does not meet the requirements set out by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

Entry Requirements / About You

* Have a BABCP recognised Core Profession (further information can be found by clicking here) OR you are a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with a minimum of two years post‑qualification experience and can demonstrate the ability to meet the Knowledge & Skills Assessment (KSA) requirements. Candidates applying via the KSA route must be able to present a completed KSA at the interview stage.
* Proven track record of working positively with people who have experienced mental ill‑health in a mental health setting.
* Highly resilient and able to meet the attendance and academic requirements of the course while working for our service.
* Able to organise a high‑volume workload to ensure effective prioritisation and delivery of objectives.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
* Ability to work flexibly to meet service and client need.

Note

* It is not possible to enter the programme with neither a degree nor a core profession. You will need to have at least a core profession or a relevant Honours degree or equivalent (marked at 2.2 or above) and meet the additional requirements as laid out above.
* Students cannot be accepted onto any training programme if they are currently undertaking studies elsewhere.
* Applicants must ensure they meet funding criteria for NHS England.

What We Offer In Return

* 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 32 days at 5 years’ service) and the option to purchase or sell days.
* Enhanced pension scheme.
* Wagestream – instant access to earnings.
* Smart Clinic Wellbeing Programme, including Employee Assistant Programme, GP and priority physiotherapy access and counselling sessions; shopping discounts with a Blue Light Card.
* Enhanced life assurance scheme, payment being three times your annual salary.
* Plus, many more great benefits on offer!
