Laboratory Scientist
Selby, North Yorkshire
Salary - £27,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience)
Temporary contract (12 months)
Hours - 37.5 hours per week
SRG is working with a specialist researcher in the biotech sector who are hiring for a new member of a 12-month period. The role will consist of ready-to-apply compound solutions for high-throughput testing. The role would suit someone with good hands-on experience in laboratory work.
Role Description
1. Preparing and testing chemical compounds for application on higher plants in on‑site glasshouse facilities, including accurate solution preparation using laboratory pipetting techniques
2. Developing and supporting compound preparation workflows, addressing compound insolubility, preparing field‑ready formulations, and supporting non‑standard experiments involving field formulations, safeners or mixing partners
3. Executing high‑throughput testing at pace, meeting regular deadlines while collaborating closely with the formulation, glasshouse, and operations teams
4. Recording, processing, and managing experimental and field trial data, maintaining electronic lab notebooks and using tools such as CDD, Mosaic, KNIME, and Power BI with a high level of accuracy
5. Contributing to efficient and safe lab operations, including lab management, safety compliance, protocol and risk assessment development, and supporting evolving business and team needs, including occasional travel
6. Requirements
7. A degree in biology or chemistry would be ideal although candidates with strong laboratory experience will be considered
8. Recent hands-on laboratory experience
9. Knowledge of laboratory processes and sample preparation techniques
10. Able to commute to the North Yorkshire area on a daily basis or relocate
