Beginning September 2025. Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant: Work closely with pupils who may have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety or behaviour challenges. Provide individual and small group support to help children regulate emotions, build confidence, and engage with learning. Build trusted relationships with pupils and act as a consistent, supportive presence. Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to implement personalised support plans. Promote a positive, structured environment using restorative and therapeutic approaches. Support behaviour de-escalation, emotional regulation, and reintegration into the classroom. Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant: Experience working with children with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges (desirable). A compassionate, patient and trauma-informed approach. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills as an SEMH Teacher. Confidence in managing behaviour calmly and positively. An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of consistency and boundaries. Willingness to undertake training (e.g. Team Teach, de-escalation, mental health first aid). Why Step Teachers?
