About the role

Are you passionate about clinical education and the development of the non-medical clinical workforce? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife or Allied Health Professional to join our established ‘Award Winning’ Professional Development & Education Unit (PDEU) at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust as a Practice Educator. We have an exciting opportunity of a permanent contract to work alongside the PDEU team.

The ideal candidate must be able to show evidence of high standards of practice with significant experience and understanding of the education and assessment of competence within healthcare and an ability to prioritise and manage their own workload.

The post holder will deliver the portfolio of a Practice Educator which includes delivery of training such as our Induction programmes, extended skills training along with other development and leadership programmes. Pastoral visits to a range of learners and staff within the clinical area are also a key element of the role.

The post holder will demonstrate professional behaviours and effective leadership to our Non-Medical professional workforce and promote the vision of the Trust and build excellent working relationships with the clinical teams.

Main duties

To work within the Professional Development and Education Unit (PDEU), in accordance with the team and wider Trust values. This role will support and facilitate the non-medical workforce in clinical and non-clinical areas to identify learning and development opportunities for maintaining and improving standards of patient care through education and career development opportunities.

Provide education and training to multidisciplinary team staff and assist in the delivery of training programmes for Trainee Nursing Associates, Nursing Associates, Student Nurses, Registered Nurses and other non-registered workforce to induct and develop their skills, knowledge and confidence.

The post holder will support and facilitate staff in clinical areas to identify opportunities for maintaining and improving standards of patient care. This will include working alongside any learner within the clinical environment to achieve competence and confidence.

Key requirements include:

* To support the PDEU in facilitating and delivering induction and training programmes for Registered and Non-Registered staff.
* Providing ‘in situ’ clinical support to appropriate staff groups to assist in achieving competencies and developing confidence in their roles.
* Provide Pastoral support to registered and non-registered learners to ensure wellbeing is supported.
* To be accountable for a group of learners within the Practice Educators allocated areas.
* Be accountable for the delegated responsibility for specific workstreams.
* Provide consistent contributions to the teams development projects and workstreams.

Essential person specification requirements


Please find below the essential qualifications, experience and skills needed for the role.

* Level 6 Degree or Diploma in Health-related subject
* Registration with NMC/ HCPC
* Teaching and assessing qualification/ Practice educator and assessor preparation (PEAP) or equivalent
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Recent experience at band 5 or above
* Ability to apply audit and evidence based practice
* Experience of leading innovation and change
* Experience of clinical teaching and/or supporting student/ learners in practice
* Recent evidence of developing healthcare practice within the clinical setting.
* Ability to assess competency in others
* Ability to identify risks and complex situations
* Commitment to evidence based practice
* Self-directed, self-motivated, innovative and dynamic.
* Adopts a flexible approach to work and service delivery
