Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist
We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join the Strategic Design and Transition Programme at the Environment Agency (EA). This role will focus on translating the Independent Water Commission’s recommendations for the water sector into future policy and strategy for the EA, shaping the agency’s future shape and design.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, balanced, evidence‑based advice to support future thinking surrounding the IWC report recommendations, especially the recommendation to create one single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA and other regulators to ensure collaborative development of policy thinking.
* Accept constructive challenge, promote diverse thinking and manage a fast‑moving working environment.
* Adopt a flexible approach, and assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as required.
* Act as an active member of the Programme team, creating conditions for a high‑performing, agile and resilient team.
Team
You will be a key part of a small, motivated team working directly with the Strategic Design and Transition Programme Director and Deputy Directors. The team is still forming, but you can expect a friendly welcome, an engaging environment and strong support for your personal development.
Experience and Skills
* Experience of working with central government to develop policy, including working with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and the ability to influence at senior levels.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, translating complex or ambiguous issues into clear, targeted advice quickly.
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
Location & Travel
Job based at an EA office. As a national role the working location is flexible. Some travel, occasionally including overnight stays, will be required.
Application Process

Contract Length
Up to 12 months.
