Purpose of the role: To undertake practical laboratory work in the Industrial Coatings Department, work on new product development and provide technical assistance to customers and production under the guidance of the ACE Development Project Lead. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Undertake practical laboratory work, including small scale paint manufacture, colour matching, raw material evaluations, paint application, physical testing of paints, chemical resistance testing of paints, preparation of external weathering samples, use of spray equipment and spray booths. Undertake work on projects to develop new products where tasks can involve formulating, sample manufacture, application and testing, interpreting results and suggest next steps of the project. Work to evaluate new and alternative raw materials in a variety of paint technologies. Consider market requirements, customer application conditions and specifications and Beckers sustainability goals. Where necessary, assist with production support, for example working on non-conformances, investigate customer complaints, supervise production batches. Record keeping, including report writing, timesheets, sample and panel records and labelling. M aintain a clean and safe working environment through daily housekeeping and adherence to 5S practices. To be competent and fully compliant in the safe operation of equipment, including general lab equipment (e.g. mixers, mills & ovens), operation of accelerated weathering cabinets, spray equipment and spray booths. Highlight unsafe conditions, taking reasonable care of oneself and others. Comply with Beckers Health and Safety policy and any Beckers procedures and rules that apply to your role. Adhere to the Beckers code of conduct at all times. Key Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours Required: To be competent in the use of IT systems and software, particularly Microsoft Office. Capable of working to strict deadlines whilst adhering to quality requirements. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication. Relevant Training and Experience: Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (preferably Chemistry) Equivalent acceptable educational standards include Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Chemistry
