Role Overview
This role combines broad generalist HR responsibilities with growing exposure to advisory work, supporting both day to day HR operations and longer term people initiatives. Alongside supporting day to day HR operations and longer term people initiatives, the role will gradually take on more advisory work. Key responsibilities include leading wellbeing activities at HQ, managing the monthly payroll process, supporting recruitment and onboarding, and coordinating engagement events such as IMI Way Day. The role also provides first line HR support to employees and managers, assists with low risk employee relations cases, maintains HR systems and documentation, and contributes to performance, policy and project work across the HR function - all designed to build the capability and experience needed for progression into an HR Advisor position.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead wellbeing initiatives at HQ, ensuring a varied programme that supports engagement and employee health.
* Coordinate and deliver IMI Way Day activities, including action planning and follow up.
* Contribute to internal communications, including content creation, branding updates, and engagement messaging.
* Support end to end recruitment by drafting job descriptions, liaising with agencies, scheduling interviews, and conducting first stage interviews where appropriate.
* Manage onboarding processes, including issuing contracts, completing right to work checks, ensuring all documentation is finalised before start dates and conducting inductions.
* Maintain accurate records and update the HRIS system in a timely manner and generate accurate reports as required.
* Maintain electronic HR records accurately and in a timely manner.
* Manage the monthly payroll process, ensuring all data is accurate and submitted on time.
* Support the annual salary review and bonus cycle by coordinating submissions and ensuring data accuracy.
* Produce and maintain HR reports and dashboards, highlighting trends and risks for review.
* Provide first line HR advisory support to employees and managers, escalating complex matters appropriately.
* Support low risk ER cases such as sickness absence reviews, probation meetings, informal performance concerns, and welfare checks.
* Arrange and participate in absence meetings, coordinate occupational health referrals, and track case progress.
* Maintain and update HR templates, policies, and documentation to ensure clarity and compliance.
* Assist in developing manager toolkits, guides, and training materials to build people management capability.
* Support UK HR meetings by coordinating agendas, sharing updates, and tracking employment law developments.
* Support the performance appraisal process to ensure consistency and fairness.
* Collaborate with HR teams on daily operations and longer term strategic initiatives.
* Lead defined workstreams within HR projects, ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are updated.
* Support organisational change initiatives, contributing research, documentation, and coordination as required.
* Act as a point of contact for employee and stakeholder queries, providing timely and effective support.
* Carry out any other duties relevant to the role as required.
Critical Competencies for Success
* 1 - 2 years’ experience in a generalist HR role is desirable.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with employees and producing clear internal content.
* Confident interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
* Excellent organisational, planning and prioritisation skills with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to manage a varied workload independently while working collaboratively within the team.
* Understanding of core HR processes, including onboarding, recruitment and payroll input.
* Comfortable balancing day to day HR operations with longer term HR projects.
* Skilled in responding to employee and manager queries and providing practical first line support.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, including data analysis in Excel.
* Quick to learn and adapt to new HR systems and digital tools.
* Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage conflicting priorities.
* High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential information.
* Reliable and accountable, consistently following through on commitments.
