Overview
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term Energy Advisor for up to two years to support the regulation of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role requires expertise in emissions control, regulatory strategy and stakeholder engagement to help the Energy & Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate achieve environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support, technical leadership, advice, guidance and training to internal teams and external partners.
* Develop sector strategy and create tools to regulate, support sector development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects as required.
* Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incident periods.
Qualifications
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds, encouraging consideration of diversity issues in work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience of regulating combustion processes, gained by working within or regulating relevant processes.
* Knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.

Location: Birmingham (in person interviews) – travel required
