Research Engineer in NLP for Language Learning (Fixed Term)
Join to apply for the Research Engineer in NLP for Language Learning (Fixed Term) role at Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy. The post is part of the project Conversational AI for Language Learning, an interdisciplinary initiative that explores how natural language processing can support language learning and preservation in the Global South, particularly in regions where such technologies are scarce.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with local partners to co‑design and evaluate the multilingual conversational application.
* Gather and curate multilingual data and resources for conversational NLP.
* Develop and adapt language technologies for under‑resourced languages.
* Contribute to publications and disseminate research findings.
The Research Engineer will work within an interdisciplinary project team and collaborate with external and community partners. The post is based at the Centre for Human‑Inspired AI (CHIA) and the Language Technology Lab (LTL), part of a highly research‑active environment in NLP and AI at the University of Cambridge. Funded for 12 months in the first instance.
