Description
The job itself
Are you passionate about delivering safe, well-managed public events? We're looking for a proactive Highways Events Officer to act as the single point of contact for event organisers when an event affects the highway, council car parks, or council land.
As the Highways Events Officer, you will work closely with event organisers, community groups, and internal teams to ensure events are delivered safely, legally, and efficiently. You'll take ownership of the approval process from initial enquiry through to event day, providing expert guidance every step of the way for events which may affect the highway network or Council car parks.
What you'll do
1. Be the main point of contact for event organisers throughout the entire process, from initial enquiry to event day, ensuring organisers are fully informed and equipped to meet the statutory requirements necessary to deliver a safe event.
2. Coordinate and process event applications impacting highways, council car parks, and council land.
3. Advise organisers on Event Management Plans (EMP), Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), road closures (TTROs), and safety compliance, ensuring all legal and council requirements are met.
4. Ensure all documentation is in place, including risk assessments, permissions, and traffic orders.
5. Work closely with Highways and Parking teams to guarantee that road closures and parking suspensions are processed accurately, on time, and fully aligned with approved TMPs - critical for public safety and minimising disruption.
6. Carry out ad-hoc site visits to check that TMPs are being delivered safely and in accordance with approved standards. This may involve occasional weekend and evening working to monitor compliance during events.
7. Manage the Events Sign Library, ensuring organisers have access to essential signage and equipment for smaller community led events.
8. Travel throughout the county to attend site visits, liaise with organisers, and coordinate with internal teams. Flexibility to work across multiple locations is essential.
What we’re looking for
9. Strong organisational and communication skills, including basic project management knowledge.
10. Knowledge of traffic management and event safety protocols including understanding of Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (training will be provided).
11. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
12. Commitment to public safety and excellent customer service.
13. Risk Assessment, Event Safety Training and Lantra qualifications such as Traffic Management for Community Events or willingness to study towards appropriate qualifications.
14. A Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
Join us and help make community events safe, compliant, and enjoyable for all.
