Join the highly experienced team in County Durham that designs and manufactures cutting-edge, high-tech products for critical applications. They are now looking to expand the team by recruiting an Epitaxial Growth Engineer. This is a key technical role, providing direct impact on product performance, yield, and new technology introduction.You'll join a supportive and high-performing environment that encourages innovation, autonomy, and continuous improvement, working with cutting-edge technologies in materials science, physics, and electronic engineering.Key Responsibilities:Develop and optimise epitaxial growth processes for compound semiconductor wafersCollaborate with design, process, and yield teams to support new product development and process qualificationMonitor, analyse and improve epi layer quality, uniformity, and repeatability using advanced metrology techniquesLead structured problem-solving efforts to improve process stability and yieldWork with equipment engineering on maintenance, upgrades, and tool performance improvementsPrepare technical reports and documentation for internal knowledge sharing and external audit purposesEnsure alignment with health, safety and environmental regulations across all growth operationsSupport root cause analysis using tools such as DoE, SPC, 8D, and FMEAIdeal Candidate Profile:Background in materials science, physics, electronic engineering, or a related disciplineEither an experienced Epitaxial Engineer or someone who is from academia and looking to take on their first position in epitaxialDirect experience in epitaxial growth (preferably MOCVD) and compound semiconductorsKnowledge of III-V materials such as GaAs, InP, or GaN is desirableStrong problem-solving skills with a structured analytical approachExperience in a high-tech manufacturing or R&D environment (Semiconductor, Photonics, RF/Microwave)Dynamic, hands-on and data-driven approachBased in or willing to relocate to County DurhamThe benefits:You’ll receive a highly competitive salary and benefits package, along with the opportunity to progress into a Lead Eptiaxial Engineer position.How to apply:Please click “apply” or for further information, please contact Ajay Bhella at Umbilical Limited, alternatively, please email me an up-to-date copy of your CV to ajay@umbilicaltech.comUmbilical Limited is committed to promoting Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.
