Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Chalk Farm, Camden Borough, London Pay Rate: £100–£130 per day, depending on experience Contract Type: Full-time, term-time Working Hours: Monday to Friday Start Date: Immediate or next academic term Introduction A nurturing and inclusive primary school in Chalk Farm, a dynamic Camden subarea, is seeking a committed Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its SEN team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with diverse learning, social, emotional, and communication needs. The successful candidate will provide tailored one-to-one and small group support, working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists. You will help pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence, and acquire essential social, emotional, and academic skills in a structured and supportive environment. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) : Pupils may require guidance with focus, organisation, and self-regulation. Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs : Pupils may benefit from support to manage emotions, develop coping strategies, and sustain positive behaviours. Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) : Pupils may require targeted interventions to develop communication skills, confidence, and social interaction. Learning Delays : Pupils may need additional scaffolding in literacy, numeracy, and other curriculum areas. Sensory Processing Needs : Pupils may benefit from classroom adaptations and personalised strategies to engage effectively in learning. Support may be delivered in one-to-one sessions, small groups, or integrated into whole-class activities, based on the pupil’s individual needs and SENCO guidance. Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities as an SEN TA will include: Delivering personalised support to pupils with SEN to enable access to lessons and activities Supporting pupils to achieve academic, social, and personal development goals Collaborating with class teachers to adapt lesson content, resources, and teaching strategies Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual support plans Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social skills Encouraging positive peer interactions and communication skills Assisting with transitions between lessons and supervising playgrounds and lunchtimes Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress and behaviour Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists Supporting personal care needs with dignity and respect Promoting independence while offering structured guidance Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment This role requires patience, creativity, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of pupils. The Ideal Candidate The school is looking for someone who is: Patient, compassionate, and empathetic Emotionally resilient and able to handle challenging situations calmly Confident supporting pupils with a variety of SEN needs Flexible and adaptable to changing pupil needs and classroom routines An effective communicator and collaborative team player Committed to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing Previous experience in SEN or educational settings is desirable but not essential. Candidates with experience in care work, youth work, behaviour support, or mental health services are encouraged to apply.
