Job responsibilities
* Work in the Theatre departments at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).
* Cover a wide variety of specialities including Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics, ENT, Cardiac, and mixed general surgical fields at Southampton General Hospital – Centre block theatres.
* Cover Obstetric & Gynecology, benign & oncology services, fertility treatment, and breast surgeries at Princess Anne Hospital.
* Assist the surgical team during operations as a circulating role, ensuring smooth delivery of services.
* Support training during the initial phase of the role, working alongside experienced staff until fully independent.
* Help staff obtain functional skills levels 2 and 3, health care, and progress towards a Nursing or Operating Department Practitioner apprenticeship.
* Demonstrate drive, potential, and willingness to grow within the team.
* Apply for part‑time positions (minimum 23 hours per week) with full flexibility to cover a variety of shifts including early, late, long days, and overnight periods (24 hours, 365 days a year).
Eligibility & requirements
* This vacancy does not meet Home Office threshold for sponsorship; requires a 9‑month training period.
* Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and, if on a visa, at least 9 months remaining from the start date.
* Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment.
* Completed secondary education.
* Ability to move and handle patients and equipment.
* Evidence of empathy, patience, and dependability.
* Ability to deal with a range of difficult situations.
* Ability to take instruction / directions and work within the role limits.
* Ability to cope with fluctuating demands and pressures.
* Awareness of and adherence to care certificate standards (https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/care-certificate).
* Capable of completing core HCSW competencies and additional specific competencies within 12 months of appointment.
* Experience in an Acute Hospital setting, Teaching Assistant, HCA Experience, and caring role experience.

Salary
£25,272 per annum (pro rata).
