We are pleased to share an opportunity for an experienced Consultant Adult Psychiatrist within our warm and welcoming Adult Mental Health Team in the Merthyr Locality of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Merthyr benefits from a well‑integrated health and social care network. The Community Mental Health Team is deeply embedded in the community, delivering holistic, person‑centred care through a multidisciplinary team of Consultant Psychiatrists, CPNs, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Social Workers. The CMHT works closely with CDAT, LPMHSS, Primary Care, Forensic Services, and Rehabilitation Services. With 72 adult acute inpatient beds, the Health Board ensures continuity of care across settings.

Main Duties

* Provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary community mental health team, managing complex cases and offering specialist assessments for adults aged 18 and over.
* Liaise with senior clinicians, GPs, and partner agencies; contribute to the consultant on‑call rota; and fulfil statutory duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
* Supervise junior doctors and have opportunities to engage in research, medical education, and leadership development.

Essential Qualifications and Eligibility

* Current GMC registration
* MRC Psych or equivalent
* Approved Clinician Approval
* Section 12(2) approval


Desirable Qualifications and Eligibility

* Additional relevant postgraduate qualification
* Relevant clinical qualification
* Welsh approved Clinician Approval


Knowledge and Experience


Essential

* Comprehensive training and experience in psychiatry


Desirable

* Experience of acting as s12(2) doctor or Responsible Clinician


Audit and Research


Essential

* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
* Evidence of having undertaken audit relevant to speciality
* Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work


Desirable

* Evidence of service‑wide audit with significant and lasting impact on practice
* Evidence of original and relevant research in speciality


Management


Essential

* Management and Administration Experience


Desirable

* Experience of Appraising Staff
* Evidence of service development
