Assistant Asset Engineer - Structures Engineering and Asset Management
We are seeking two proactive and ambitious Assistant Asset Engineers to join our Structures Engineering and Asset Management team based in Glasgow. As part of Scotland’s Railway, our team is responsible for ensuring the safety and functionality of a diverse asset portfolio across the country, including bridges, viaducts (such as the Forth & Tay Bridges), tunnels, coastal defenses, retaining walls, and culverts.
The Assistant Asset Engineers will be part of the East Area Team, managing various structures from urban environments in Glasgow & Edinburgh to rural locations in Wick & Kyle. You will support the application of asset management processes in line with policies and standards to maintain a safe and reliable railway for our customers.
We seek individuals who are proactive, ambitious, eager to develop, and committed to delivering a safe and efficient railway. Previous experience in structures, strong communication and numerical skills, and a flexible, enthusiastic approach to teamwork are advantageous.
About the role
Key responsibilities include:
1. Evaluating and risk assessing examination reports to ensure safety and performance of the asset portfolio.
2. Prioritizing actions to address defects and risks identified in reports, in line with standards and policies.
3. Scheduling examinations, inspections, and assessments of assets.
4. Overseeing maintenance work development, implementation, and handover, including creating management regimes for specific routes and asset types.
5. Developing asset renewal requirements, supporting design approval and certification processes.
6. Implementing mitigation measures following structural assessments or deferred management actions.
7. Engaging with stakeholders to identify and implement risk management solutions.
8. Managing asset data within company systems.
9. Monitoring asset condition data to inform maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation, and renewal plans.
10. Supporting investigations of incidents and providing engineering support.
11. Participating in the development of enhancement schemes and managing interface with network capability programs.
12. Reviewing proposals that impact assets or programs to identify synergies or conflicts.
13. Supporting asset management processes to meet financial and output targets.
14. Conducting engineering analysis and risk assessments to support schemes.
15. Contributing to technology development for improved asset management.
What you will bring to the role
* HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Significant experience in a relevant engineering field.
Desirable qualifications
* Incorporated Engineer status.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering policies and standards.
* Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
