Adult ESOL Sessional Lecturer 6 hours per week (2 evenings) - Term Time Only | City College Norwich At City College Norwich, we are proud to provide an inclusive, supportive, and ambitious learning environment where every learner can succeed. We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Sessional ESOL Lecturer to join our Adult ESOL provision, delivering evening classes (typically two evenings per week). This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with adult learners and confident in planning and delivering engaging ESOL sessions within a long, evening teaching context. About the Role You will deliver ESOL to adult learners across a range of levels (Entry Level 1 to Level 1), within classes that meet once per week for a 3-hour session . Our learners bring a wide range of experiences, confidence levels, and educational backgrounds. Classes are often mixed ability, and effective teaching requires a flexible, responsive approach that balances structure with adaptability. You will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that: engage learners throughout a longer session support the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing enable learners to make progress even where attendance may vary Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver high-quality ESOL lessons for adult learners in an evening setting Structure sessions effectively to maintain engagement over a 3-hour period Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of mixed ability groups Support learners with a range of motivations and barriers to learning Monitor learner progress and provide clear, supportive feedback Contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment Who We're Looking For We are looking for someone who combines strong ESOL teaching skills with a practical and learner-centred approach. Qualifications: A recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards) and relevant ESOL subject knowledge Experience: Experience of teaching ESOL, ideally with adult learners Teaching Practice: Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons that work effectively in longer, evening sessions Differentiation: Confidence in teaching mixed ability groups and adapting approaches to meet different learning needs Learner Focus: Understanding of the motivations and barriers facing adult learners, and ability to respond with patience and flexibility Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment Adaptability: A practical, solution-focused approach, with the ability to respond to changing learner needs and attendance patterns Why Join Us?
