Deputy Director for Environmental Markets & Regulation - 30904
We are seeking a Deputy Director to support the delivery of emerging and existing regulatory regimes driven by government reform and increasing environmental ambition. This role involves strategic leadership and management of specialist operational teams responsible for regulating market-based schemes such as Producer Responsibility Waste markets, Carbon Markets, Hazardous Waste, Chemicals, Carriers, Brokers, and International Waste Shipments.
The successful candidate will work closely with government, industry, and partner regulators to deliver operational standards, provide technical regulatory direction, and foster effective relationships with stakeholders. Leadership qualities such as strategic thinking, communication, negotiation, and team development are essential. The role also emphasizes promoting health, safety, wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion within the team.
The team, part of the National Regulation & Monitoring in Operations, comprises around 550 staff and is set to grow. It operates across various environmental regulation sectors and collaborates with different departments and agencies.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership to operational teams managing national and international environmental regulation schemes.

The role requires autonomy in translating policy into impactful delivery and navigating complex environments. A professional qualification in any discipline is preferred.
