Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, full time, 37.5 hours per week – acute inpatients.
Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about working with adults with complex communication and swallowing difficulties. The role is primarily on acute medical wards with the option for community or ALD settings. You will manage a caseload independently and work with a dynamic, friendly team of therapists and technical instructors to deliver high‑quality SLT services to adults in North East Wales. Welsh language skills are desirable but not mandatory – English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Working primarily with inpatients at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, the post offers flexibility to provide up to 4 sessions per week in other services such as community or ALD. You will be supported by senior Band 7 S<s and a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Clinical supervision is encouraged, and there are regular CPD events, training opportunities, and mentorship. Opportunities include therapist‑led and MDT clinics: Videofluoroscopy and FEES, Joint Voice Clinics, Parkinson’s Clinics, and MND MDT meetings. You will also be encouraged to participate in service improvements and MDT initiatives. Informal visits are welcomed for prospective candidates.

Qualifications
* Recognised qualification degree or equivalent in S<
* HCPC registered
* Up‑to‑date, relevant CPD portfolio demonstrating continuing professional development
Desirable qualifications
* Membership of appropriate clinical network group
* Other professional or academic qualifications relating to clinical practice
* Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate
Experience – Essential criteria
* Range of clinical experience across adult and paediatric SLT services
* Delegation to non‑registered staff
* Evidence of teaching within the post
* Involvement in clinical audit
* Experience in service development and improvement
Experience – Desirable criteria
* Delegation to registered staff
* Experience delivering clinical education in area of speciality
* Experience supporting service change
* Delivering practice supervision
* Experience leading service development and improvement
