This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists working for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust at the Community Diagnostic Centres. The role is based at Broad Street in Calderdale and Southgate in Huddersfield.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure, record data accurately and maintain an approachable nature. Full and extensive departmental training will be provided. Candidates should have a good level of education and a determination to deliver high‑quality compassionate care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
• The phlebotomy team delivers a high‑quality, patient‑focused blood‑taking service in a wide range of settings across Calderdale and Kirklees. This role will involve working at the community diagnostic centres.
• Good IT skills are essential, along with experience in a health‑care or customer‑service focused role.
• Previous experience in venepuncture is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
* Work unsupervised in our community diagnostic centres.
* Keep fully stocked phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers within blood‑collecting units and support stock taking.
* Maintain work areas and trolleys, keeping them clean, neat and tidy.
* Undertake surveys and audits when requested.
* Attend to staff and patients queries, referring appropriately.
* Comply with all health and safety regulations.
* Use a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q‑pulse and work‑related e‑mail.
* Commit to a seven‑day service inclusive of bank holidays between 08:00 and 20:00; be flexible to adapt to the needs of the service.
* Cover other staff when required.
* Perform any duties as defined by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager, CT Service Lead, or Team Leader in charge.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* Educated to GCSE level A*‑D or equivalent in Mathematics & English.
* Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer‑service related subject.
* Willingness to complete further training to complement and support the specified role.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Demonstrable experience of working in a health‑care setting or customer‑service focused role.
* Evidence of complying with legislation, policies and procedures.
* Evidence of ability to work under pressure whilst ensuring patients are the priority.
* Experience of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office packages.
* Ability to lift, bend, push, pull and stand for long periods of time.
* Access to suitable transport (required to work in the community and visit patients at their homes).
* Previous experience using point‑of‑care testing equipment.
