Mobile Commercial / Industrial Gas Engineer
Location: Milton Keynes/ Nationwide (UK travel required)
Salary: £37,000 – £46,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
Contract: Full-time, Permanent



We are currently recruiting on behalf of a long-established engineering business specialising in the service and installation of process gas appliances within the food and wider process industries. With decades of industry expertise and long-standing client relationships, they are expanding their engineering team and seeking a skilled and motivated Mobile Commercial / Industrial Gas Engineer.

The role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is technically minded, eager to develop, and looking to join a company that heavily invests in the training and progression of its engineers.

As a Mobile Gas Engineer, you will work as part of a nationwide service team, covering various customer sites across the UK.

The ideal candidate will be based in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

You will be responsible for the service, maintenance, fault finding, repair and installation of a wide range of gas equipment, including forced draught burners, atmospheric systems, gas pipework and associated controls. The position requires flexibility to travel, stay away overnight, and work weekends as part of the on-call and overtime rota.

This is a hands-on role with regular interaction with clients and their equipment, often in high-demand food production environments. You will be supported by an in-house training programme that meets current health and safety standards while developing your skills further.

Key responsibilities
1. Servicing and fault-finding on a variety of gas burner systems
2. Installing and commissioning gas appliances and controls
3. Carrying out repairs and maintenance on industrial and commercial gas systems
4. Completing digital service reports accurately and in a timely manner
5. Working to high safety standards across food and process industry sites
6. Participating in a nationwide on-call rota and occasional weekend work
7. Travelling to sites across the UK, with overnight stays as required
Requirements
8. ACS qualifications for commercial/industrial gas (e.g. COCN1 or CODNCO1, ICPN1, TPCP1, CIGA1, CDGA1, CORT1)
9. Proven experience in installation, servicing, and breakdowns within the industrial or commercial gas sector
10. Full UK driving licence and valid passport
11. Willingness to travel nationally and work flexible hours, including weekends and overnight stays
12. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
Desirable qualifications and experience
13. Additional ACS qualifications including LPG, ComCat 1 & 3, BMP1, TPCP1/A, CPA1, CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1
14. Electrical qualifications and/or experience
15. SPA Food Industry Safety Passport, IPAF, PASMA, Confined Space or Asbestos awareness
16. Mechanical and pipework installation experience, ideally in food or process industries
Salary and benefits
17. Salary between £37,000 – £50,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications
18. 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
19. Company vehicle and fuel card (personal use allowed)
20. Company mobile phone, PPE, uniform and specialist tools provided
21. 6% employer pension contribution
22. Death in service insurance (3x salary)
23. Tax-free sustenance allowance of £26 per night plus £50 inconvenience payment per night away
24. Annual bonus and sick pay scheme
25. Monthly ‘Thank You’ day off for exceptional performance
26. Overtime paid door-to-door:
27. Monday to Friday: time and a half
28. Saturday AM: time and a half
29. Saturday PM and Sunday: double time
30. Paid travel time at overtime rate
31. On-call / standby payment of £250 for 9 days every 8 weeks
32. Additional £75 standby for Bank Holidays, plus a day off in lieu if not called out
Working hours
33. 40 hours per week, typically between 07:00 and 18:00 depending on customer needs
34. Participation in on-call rota approximately one week in every eight
35. Available to work up to two Saturdays per month
36. Prepared to stay away from home up to eight days per month (usually no more than four nights at a time; hotels booked in advance)
