An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in our Early Pregnancy/Emergency Gynaecology Clinic as part of our women’s services.

We are looking for a candidate that is motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking to become a member of our team.

The successful candidate will need to embrace and be willing to be challenged by extremely sensitive and sometimes vulnerable patients. The ability to use excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills will be essential.

We are a small friendly team that are dedicated and passionate to develop our service and improve patient care and work within the RCOG /N.I.C.E guidelines.

We run a 6 day week service and open bank holidays, hoping to become a seven day service in the future. Opening times are 7 am until 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 7.30 to 13.00hrs Saturday and bank holidays. The candidate may be required to work in other outpatient gynaecology areas.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a registered general nurse with an interest in Gynaecology, who feel that they can complement our friendly, conscientious caring team of nurses.

Early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology clinic is an outpatient service seeing 6000 + patients a year. Offering care to patients suffering miscarriage, molar pregnancies and ladies diagnosed with ectopic and many other pregnancy complications, including patients suffering from hyperemesis.

Our nurse led Early Pregnancy Clinic for patients less than 15 weeks gestation runs each morning. In the afternoons the clinic is a mixture of early pregnancy and emergency gynae patients. A senior doctors attends the gynae patients with nurse support.

A high standard of communication and the ability to show empathy is essential due the nature of the conditions our patients attend with. We work to a very high standard of care and this is proven by excellent feedback from patients.

As the clinic is continually being developed. A flexible working approach will be essential and the post would ideally suit someone with good gynaecological experience, or someone very motivated with a genuine interest in women’s health.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a band 5 registered Nurse once you will undertake in house/departmental training to enable you to see patients independently. This will include taking history from patients, reading scan reports, performing venepuncture and discharging patients. The role will expand as your knowledge of early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology develops. The role will also include attending M.D.T meetings, helping with audits, interpreting results and updating data basis.

Independent working will be encouraged but the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team will be essential. This will ensure safe effective care for our patients that will give a high quality patient experience. Working within a small team a flexible, sensitive and caring approach will be key to help running a successful outpatient clinic.

2. Degree in nurse related speciality or working towards

5. Knowledge of clinical governance

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
