They provide specialist services in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine both in the hospital and out in the community, serving a catchment area of 2.8 million people.
Role Overview: The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation of highly skilled, individualized care to all patients whilst supporting and guiding junior staff. They will actively support senior colleagues, take charge of the Unit in the absence of a clinical Band 7, and promote the role of Band 6 within critical care.
Responsibilities
* Provide delivery and evaluation of highly skilled individualized care to all patients and support and guide junior staff.
* Act as Team leader within the Post-Operative Critical Care Unit (POCCU) and Intensive Care Unit (ITU) on a shift basis.
* Provide leadership to the service improvement cluster group to which the candidate is allocated.
* Supervise, instruct, and serve as a resource for junior colleagues.
* Maintain an efficient communication system in conjunction with other senior staff, ensuring dissemination of information to all staff and encouraging ideas for improvements in patient care.
* Act as an effective role model and advisor to colleagues in the delivery of nursing care.
* Demonstrate effective management and organisational skills.
* Promote and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients in line with the Trust’s Risk Management Strategy and Policies.
* Assist in the formulation and updating of personal development plans for junior colleagues.
* Assist lead in quality and risk management for critical care in audits and the development and implementation of action plans.
* Work unsupervised with the ability to care for all Level 2/3 critical care patients.
* Ensure agreed patient management plans and standards of care are implemented, evaluated, and adhered to.
Qualifications
* Full NMC registration.
* Previous experience working in UK critical care.
