Job Title: Therapy Assistant (Band 3)

Salary: Negotiable dependent on experience

Location: 20 & 22 Devonshire Place, London
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Wednesday to Friday)

The Role

We are seeking a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our Orthopaedics and Aquatic Therapy team. Reporting to the Lead Physiotherapist in Orthopaedics and Aquatic Therapy, you will support the delivery of high-quality patient care across the physiotherapy and aquatic therapy services.

You will assist in the rehabilitation of patients, support physiotherapists with clinical and non-clinical tasks, and contribute to the smooth running of therapy services. This role requires excellent communication skills, compassion, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

Key Duties:

Professional / Clinical:

* Accept patients referred by a physiotherapist and manage/prioritise own caseload.
* Undertake skilled support work to aid patient rehabilitation, promoting privacy and dignity.
* Treat patients according to set protocols, monitoring progression and reporting changes to the physiotherapist.
* Assist patients to/from aquatic therapy and support transfers in/out of the pool.
* Manage delegated rehabilitation work without direct supervision and report progress back to the physiotherapist.
* Treat patients individually or in groups across a variety of settings (wards, physiotherapy department, aquatic therapy).
* Undertake high-level support work including falls management and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
* Instruct patients and carers on physiotherapy and mobility activities.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mobility aids and be able to measure, order, and instruct patients in their use.
* Encourage patient independence with empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
* Use communication approaches that support informed decision-making; actively listen and give/receive feedback.
* Attend MDT meetings as delegated and provide accurate feedback to the physiotherapist.
* Keep accurate treatment records in line with CSP and service standards.
* Organise clinical areas and ensure equipment is safe and functioning.
* Perform administrative tasks including photocopying, retrieving records, and making telephone calls.
* Perform and report clinical observations (respiration rate, temperature, pulse, BP, oxygen saturation, fluid balance).
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Comply with Clinic and departmental policies/procedures.
* Use equipment safely and report faults as required.
* Be flexible with staffing needs where possible.
* Carry out duties professionally, efficiently, and helpfully.
* Recognise limitations of competence and decline tasks outside capability.
* Behave professionally at all times.

Skills and Experience:

Qualifications:

* Secondary education completed; able to deliver basic care skills under supervision.

Experience:

* Previous experience in a healthcare environment and working with the public.
* Previous experience working in an acute area within a hospital.

Skills:

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Able to work as part of a team and prioritise workload.
* Able to deliver care under supervision and use time effectively.

Personal Attributes:

* Positive, adaptable, and able to manage sensitive or stressful situations.
* Uses initiative, maintains confidentiality, and demonstrates professionalism.

Physical Requirements:

* Physically fit for all aspects of the role and able to work late shifts/weekends.
