Job title: Financial Controller

Location: Farleigh House, Farleigh Hungerford, Bath with occasional work and meetings at the Recreation Ground, Bath (the "Rec")
As Financial Controller for Bath Rugby you will oversee all accounting and financial operations, ensuring that all statutory and management financial reporting, tax and other financial are completed to a high standard and to agreed timelines. You will manage a team of 4 (3 DR's) and own the month-end close to report process as well as providing Finance Business Partnering support to the Commercial side of the Club contributing to the annual budget and quarterly reforecast process as well as supporting the Commercial stakeholders with meaningful and insightful analysis to aid decision making.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supervising Accounting Operations - Ensure all month end procedures are completed in line with the monthly timetable, including management accounts, review and approval of payroll and balance sheet account reconciliations.
* Management & Leadership – day to day management of the accounting team of 4 (3 Direct reports)
* Financial Reporting – preparing and analysing monthly management accounts including P&L and Balance Sheets as well as annual statutory account preparation. Produce weekly updates of the cashflow statements including a rolling 12-month forecast.
* Tax Compliance – Ensuring compliance with all tax requirements, including preparation / filing of the quarterly VAT return and liaison with HMRC.
* Annual Statutory Accounts - Management of the Year End Audit and Financial Statements preparation in conjunction with the Company's auditors.
* Finance Business Partnering – support the Commercial leaders of the Club in terms of both core financial reporting and business reporting/planning. To include day to day management of the annual budgeting process and Qtrly reforecast process and supporting the team in producing meaningful monthly reporting to their Commercial stakeholders.
* Internal Controls - ensure all financial and operational controls are applied and adhered to, perform regular review of internal controls within the Club to ensure they are fit for purpose.
* Management of Transactional Finance – ensure there is an efficient Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable process in place, review and approval of supplier payments and expenses and ensure timely collection of customer debt.
* Insurance – ownership of the annual insurance renewal process, liaising with our providers to ensure all information required is provided on a timely basis.
* Continuous Improvement Mindset - review all current processes and systems in place with the aim of optimising the efficiency and performance of the finance department
* To support the Finance and HR Director on contractual matters and ad hoc projects as and when needed.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
* Qualified accountant with 3+ years of post-qualification experience in industry.
* Previous experience as Financial Controller within an SME environment is preferable, but consideration will be given to strong candidates with relevant experience that are looking to take on their first controller role.
* Strong technical accounting skills and attention to detail are a must. The candidate will be expected to provide rigorous challenge to the Finance Team.
* Budgeting & Forecasting experience as well as demonstrable experience of financial analysis skills, the ability to analyse data, identify trends and provide meaningful insight.
* Outstanding communication skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team including team leadership, management and team development.
* A proactive individual, with excellent organisational skills, including working to deadlines and the ability to prioritise / delegate tasks when appropriate.
* Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel, and experience of preparing financial models.
* Experience of Sage 200 accounting systems is desirable.

Location
Based at Bath Rugby HQ, Farleigh House, and The Rec in Bath city centre. Due to the rural location and limited public transport, applicants must live within commuting distance and have access to their own transport.
