Specialist Dental Nurse

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Maxillofacial and Dental team. The role involves providing high‑quality clinical care and support to all staff grades, preparing and maintaining clinical areas, managing stocks of materials and equipment, collecting and inputting data into the patient administration system, and assisting the Dental and wider multidisciplinary team on a day‑to‑day basis.
Main duties of the job
The department delivers Paediatric and Restorative dentistry, Orthodontics and Maxillofacial surgery to children under the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital who, because of their medical history, are unable to access this care elsewhere. The department sees over 5,000 patients each year as outpatients and has an inpatient workload of just under 300 episodes. An in‑house dental laboratory supports the department.
The successful applicant will assist in the treatment of patients with medical histories including craniofacial anomalies, infectious diseases, high‑risk conditions, complex skin disorders and high‑dependency patients with mental and physical disabilities. The role also includes general housekeeping and administrative duties. You will work as a member of the Dental Nursing team supporting clinicians with treatment within a department, ward and theatre setting, delivering care to NHS and international paying patients.
Skills and abilities
* Literate, numerate and able to communicate at all levels
* Ability to fit into a team, positive attitude, flexible, willing to contribute, organised, patient focussed and well presented
* Basic computer skills and familiarity with Electronic Patient Records or Dental software
* Tact and empathy when dealing with patients/carers and colleagues
* Willingness to cover colleagues during periods of annual leave or sickness
* Competent in intra‑oral scanning
* Experience and competency in sedation

Experience and knowledge
* Work independently with manager/clinician available for reference
* Considerable post‑qualification experience in practical dental nursing
* Experience working in general, community or hospital dental setting
* Experience with general anaesthetic/sedation/special needs environment

£38,488 to £46,852 a year inclusive.
