Year 5 Class Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Bournemouth
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time (Fixed Term to July 2026)
Are you experienced in supporting children and ready for a rewarding classroom-based role in a vibrant primary school?
GSL Education are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 class at a mainstream primary school in Bournemouth. The successful candidate will also work closely with a pupil in the class with Autism and behavioural needs, providing tailored one-to-one and group support as part of the wider classroom team.
The school is looking for someone with previous experience working with children, such as a nursery practitioner, sports coach, childminder, or in a care-based setting. A trial day is scheduled for the first day of term in September 2025, with the potential to continue in a fixed-term capacity through July 2026.
Responsibilities of a Year 5 Class Teaching Assistant (Year 5 TA):
* Support the teaching and learning of pupils in a Year 5 class, including targeted support for a pupil with additional needs
* Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment
* Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to implement effective support strategies
* Encourage the emotional, social, and academic development of pupils
* Assist with behaviour management and provide consistent, nurturing support
Year 5 Teaching Assistant Requirements:
* Prior experience working with children (e.g., nursery, coaching, childcare, care work)
* Confidence in managing behaviour positively and supportively
* CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not essential
* A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
* A calm, patient, and resilient approach
* Team player with strong communication skills
* Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
