An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band5 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and dedicated multi-disciplinaryteam based at North Devon District Hospital. The post holder will be based onthe 16-bedded Adult Acute Mental Health Ward and will be responsible forcompleting evidence based assessments and interventions with our service usersacross a 7-day service.
The post holder will be working in a friendly and supportive environment, with a focus onproviding the very best patient care in a locality combining sea, moor, historyand opportunity.
Main duties of the job
The applicant will have responsibility for a defined caseload ofpatients with complex mental health needs, alongside contributing to team andservice development. The post holder will be supported to develop knowledge ofrelevant legislation, the use of occupational therapy models and interventionsfor mental illness, whilst becoming skilled in liaising with themulti-disciplinary team and external agencies.
The successful post holder will need to have a passion for workingwith adults with mental health conditions, whilst being flexible, motivated anda team player.
The post holder will be required to have a high level of adaptablecommunication skills, be compassionate, respectful and value individual patientneeds. They will have the ability to recognise and manage challengingsituations in a calm and professional manner, be resilient and emotionallyintelligent and engage positively with service users and their families andcarers.

Job responsibilities
- To work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary inpatient team based on sixteen bedded ward, with patients experiencing a multitude of mentalhealth diagnoses and difficulties.
- To assess and treat patients bothindividually and use group work in a variety of environments including theirhome.
- To work at a goodpace, be flexible and creative in approach and work independently.
- Supervision will be provided by the lead OT and the applicant will supervise an OT assistant.

* Some mental health experience.
Qualifications
* BSc Occupational Therapy
* Basic therapeutic skills eg. CBT, motivational interviewing
Knowledge and Skills
* - Knowledge of OT principles and theories
* - Professional judgement and clinical reasoning skills
* - Able to work independently and use initiative
* - Basic IT Skills
* - Knowledge of the MOHO and associated assessments
