Subject Librarian (Chinese and Korean Studies)
About the role
You will develop electronic and print collections in your area(s) of responsibility, manage online research guides and communication channels, and liaise with and support students and staff in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and the School of Global and Area Studies. Your responsibilities include promoting information and digital literacies, developing and managing the Library’s Chinese and Korean Studies collections, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the KB Chen China Centre Library.
You will line-manage a small team providing frontline services, and be part of the East Asia Section management team, driving ongoing development of services and collections, staff training, and strategic initiatives.
This is a permanent, full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week. Due to the nature of duties, remote or home working is not supported.
About You
You should have excellent written and spoken Chinese language skills, the ability to read classical Chinese, a working knowledge of Korean, and experience with print and electronic resources relevant to Chinese and Korean studies. Practical experience in library work or information support within an academic environment is essential. An in-depth understanding of researcher and student information needs and scholarly communication in these disciplines is required. A professional library qualification is desirable.
