Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for 2 Driver's to join our team across Shetland. You will join us on a part-time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a salary of £13.19 per hour (FTE £24,023 per annum).
About the Driver role:
The role is as a drver in the Shetland Community Transport Service. Our service provides transport for clients across Shetland, taking them to hospital and GP appointments as well as social appointments such as lunch clubs or social clubs.
As our new Driver you will be responsible for:
* Providing transport for clients across Shetland using a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.
* Ensuring that wheelchair passengers are transferred into and out of the vehicle safely and comfortably and using the tie-in system to secure the wheelchair during transport.
* Assisting the Service Manager to meet KPIs and keep the service running smoothely.
* Ensure compliance with associated standatrfs, policies and procedures e.g. Health and Safety, Infection Controle.
* Data Protection and Adult Protection.
Location: Across Shetland.
Hours: 25 hours across the week, worked from 8am to 1pm and second position 12.30pm to 5.30 pm. Some flexibility will be required.
Job Requirements
What you'll need:
Knowledge
* An understanding of wheelchair accessible vehicles and how to secure a wheelchair into a vehicle would be an advantage.
* A good geographical knowledge of Shetland and the road networks around the major towns.
Skills
* A full, current driving licence.
* Excellent communications skills with the ability to put people at their ease quickly.
Experience
* Working with or as a volunteer or an understanding of the third sector would be an advantage.
* PVG membership required
Job Responsibilities
This is what you'll be doing:
* Deliver safe, reliable, and timely transport services for clients across Shetland using a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, ensuring journeys are planned effectively and completed to a high standard.
* Support passengers with mobility needs by providing appropriate assistance during boarding and exiting the vehicle, prioritising dignity, comfort, and safety at all times.
* Secure wheelchairs and mobility equipment correctly within the vehicle in line with operational guidelines to ensure safe travel throughout each journey.
* Contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the service by supporting the Service Manager with performance targets, service delivery requirements, and continuous improvement.
* Work in line with organisational and statutory requirements, maintaining high standards of health and safety, infection prevention, data protection, and adult safeguarding.
* Actively participate in mandatory and role-specific training to maintain competence and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
* Carry out additional duties as required to support the service, in line with the responsibilities and scope of the role, as agreed with the Service Manager.
