Department: Internal Comms Location: Head Office, Chelsea House Description The Internal Communications Manager supports us to create an informed, engaged and aligned team which, in turn, enables business performance and a positive workplace culture. The role leads on the planning and delivery of clear, timely and compelling communications that support River Island’s business goals, including the management of our broadcast channels. We have a small Internal Communications team within the People function, but it collaborates with Engagement, Marketing, Tech and other in-house teams to deliver communications. The Internal Communications Manager must have the experience and skills to provide strategic advice and guidance, and be comfortable working independently at all levels of the organisation. They will be curious and personable – getting out and understanding the business to initiate content and campaigns that bring strategic messages to life. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Strategic communications Build a strong understanding of the business’ strategy, audiences and ways of working to enable you to identify communications opportunities and to create clear, compelling communications Develop communication campaigns and plans that are aligned to business strategy, are delivered to time and to budget, and meet defined objectives Produce quality written and visual content for a range of channels, adhering to River Island’s style guidelines Use formal and informal measurement to review communications against defined objectives and to help improve future communications Stakeholder engagement Build strong stakeholder relationships with people across the business, including executives and senior directors, supporting them to define their communication requirements and provide sound internal communications advice Regularly visit our stores and other workplaces to maintain a good understanding of our business, develop people-centred content and learn about communication challenges and preferences Channel management and planning Manage the day-to-day delivery of internal communications channels, including the intranet and streamed events, ensuring they are accessible, user-friendly and effective Develop and maintain governance guidelines and processes for the intranet, ensuring page owners are trained and maintaining up-to-date content to drive user engagement with the channel Use formal and informal measurement to review channels and drive continuous improvement Develop and maintain the communications calendar to enable planning and alignment, and enable informed conversations with stakeholders Tender for and manage external suppliers of creative and technical services Team working and collaboration Identify and re-purpose internal content for use in our recruitment channels, helping to promote River Island as a great place to work Make recommendations for and lead ad hoc projects aimed at improving the Internal Communications’ service offering Work collaboratively with other teams to develop and deliver joined-up internal and external communications, including the Recruitment, Engagement and Marketing functions ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Experience developing and delivering internal communications to an operational workforce across multiple locations Experience producing content for a variety of mediums (e.g. intranet articles, townhall scripts, printed materials) Experience managing communication channels, including digital platforms Experience advising and influencing senior leaders on communication approaches, including aligning messages and channels to difference audiences Ability to successfully build and manage stakeholder relationships Strong written communications, verbal communications and interpersonal skills Comfortable working in a changing environment and/or with ambiguity Comfortable working independently, including visiting other workplace locations to generate content Good organisational, planning and time management skills Strong attention to detail DESIREABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Experience using new and innovative communication channels Experience creating and editing videos Experience using graphic design software and tools (e.g. Canva) Experience of supporting cultural or organisational change through internal communications Experience of employer brand communications About Us We’re a much-loved brand with an exciting future.
