Position Overview

East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (Cambridge) is seeking a fully qualified Registered Nurse or Midwife to join the 0‑19 Healthy Child Programme. The role involves delivering high‑quality public health services to children and families across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough under the direction of the HCP Team Leader.


Responsibilities

* Deliver services as part of the 0‑19 years Healthy Child Programme with appropriate training and competency assessment.
* Work within the 0‑19 pathway to provide planned programmes of care under the direction of Locality Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN), including onward referrals.
* Manage own caseload for identified children and young people.
* Provide care in various settings such as schools, clinics, client homes, and community venues.
* Conduct Universal New Birth contacts, 6‑week checks, 1‑ and 2‑year reviews, transfer‑in contacts, and school health assessments as required.
* Participate in the delivery of services for identified health priorities based on referral criteria.
* Attend events to promote the service as required.
* Record and review children moving in/out of the area following agreed guidelines and protocols.
* Assist in public health group activities identified through needs assessment, e.g., themed drop‑ins and health days.
* Report concerns to the HCP 0‑19 Team Leader or Locality SCPHN.
* Adhere to safeguarding children and adults guidelines, attend relevant training, and participate in safeguarding processes.
* Act as a practice supervisor or assessor for student nurses under approved training.
* Support children, families and young people, ensuring their voices are considered in service development.
* Assist the Duty Clinician in the delegation of Text Us and Duty Desk clinical correspondence and support the team's digital services.
* Lead child health clinics.


Communication

* Develop strong links with multi‑agency providers in the locality.
* Identify resources to signpost families, including online tools, to support health literacy.
* Support development of new digital technologies and promote their use.
* Communicate effectively with children, young people, parents, carers and other professionals, using engagement, negotiation, motivation and explanation skills.
* Advise school staff on online resources for PSHE and health literacy.
* Build relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies that support children, families and young people.
* Contribute information for referrals to other agencies, including EHA and children’s social care referrals, under SCPHN supervision.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and currently hold valid registration.
* Fully qualified and experienced registered nurse or midwife.
* Relevant experience in community public health or child health settings.
* Competent in delivering universal and complex care services.
* Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
* Current completion of mandatory training required by EEC.


Professional & Governance

* Maintain confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act.
* Follow Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies for any data handling.
* Adhere to Trust risk assessment, risk management and infection control processes.
* Participate in clinical and other audits as required.
* Provide patients and families with information on service standards.
* Engage in clinical supervision regularly.
* Participate in relevant emergency preparedness processes for the team.
