Each summer, over 1000 kids from Greater Boston and Brockton attend one of our two residential summer camps, and 600 of those youth continue year-round in programming focused on Leadership Development, Community Action, and College Access.
We hire a diverse team of passionate, dedicated staff to inspire, mentor, and build meaningful relationships with the youth that we serve. This is made possible through team building, sports, swimming lessons, performing arts and adventure activities. Becoming a Crossroads’ Operations & Adventure Coordinator is a terrific opportunity for people who are interested in pursuing endeavors in Child Development, Education, Social Work, Social Justice, Psychology and more. Additionally, it is a prescribed step on the C5 Leadership Continuum, positioned between Head Counselor and Team Leader, and offers the opportunity to practice elevated logistical and operational management skills.
The dates of employment for this position are June 8-August 15 (with additional training held May 31-June 2). Weekly salary begins at $550/week plus $450 season completion bonus. Additional stipends available for specialized qualifications. Room and Board included.
Adventure Coordinator Summary of Duties:
Act as on-site lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the ropes course
Facilitate high ropes, low ropes, and climbing wall activities with youth participants aged 13-15
Ensure consistent adherence to C5 policies/procedures, ACA standards, and MA Department of Public Safety
Respond to high ropes course rescues, medical emergencies, and inappropriate/unsafe behaviors according to established procedures
Manage all adventure program equipment, inventory, use logs
Complete daily equipment and element checks while the course is in use
Supervise and coach Adventure Staff and conduct weekly skill verifications
Plan and facilitate several camping and backpacking trek experiences including logistics, programming, and staff and teen management.
Oversee the safety and well-being of participants during the Flint/Lantern trek experiences with special attention to risk minimization, risk management, established protocols, and Leave No Trace practices.
Deliver activity instruction related to trek skills to staff and youth participants
Operations Coordinator Summary of Duties:
Oversee primary areas of Camp Lapham operations including transportation plans related to programming, health & safety, and staff days/time off; trek logistics and pack-in/pack-out procedures; supply purchasing and management; opening and closing day logistics.
Serve as a contingent support in additional program areas and health center operations
Engage in significant collaboration with all members of the leadership and counseling teams
Build positive relationships with staff & youth during all components of the summer experience
Essential Functions:
The essential functions for an Adventure Coordinator include the ability to facilitate progressive experiences on high ropes and low ropes courses; ensure the safety and well-being of ropes course staff and participants; maintain a detail-focused approach to course, equipment, and log management; and engage in supervision and coaching of ropes course staff. The Adventure Coordinator must value the reflective process that helps youth establish a connection between camp activities and leadership development.
The essential functions for an Operations Coordinator include the ability to develop complex logistical plans and juggle a high volume of small details. Clear communication, active listening, and considerable foresight is necessary for success. The Operations Coordinator will be responsible for developing, executing, reviewing, and revising processes related to a variety of operational areas. A focus on processes and procedures with a highly developed attention to detail is essential. The Operations Coordinator will appreciate a role that builds capacity and develops plans in support of others. A jack of many trades, they will display a willingness to modify plans frequently and jump in as needed across many facets of camp life.
The most suitable candidates will possess an appreciation for challenge activities, hiking, and outdoor education, willingly engage with campers and fellow staff, and find success in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and shifts.
The Operations & Adventure Coordinator will reside in a cube or cabin (potentially with other staff). As a member of the leadership team, they will maintain an active presence across programming and property. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards related to camp life is required.
