Purpose
Work with the plant Engineering Team to ensure existing plant electrical systems are maintained in accordance with best practices and meet company, regulatory and system operator (UK Power Network) requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Work as an integral part of the operations team to ensure the Energy from Waste (EfW) plant and its associated electrical systems are maintained to a reasonable standard in line with their intended operational regimes and, where practicable, enhanced with improvements made possible from new technologies and changes in electrical standards and codes of practice.
2. Support the EfW new project being built by ensuring that contractors are adhering to at least the requirements of the EPC Contract and its related technical specification.
3. Support the installation of a new 132kV electrical connection between UK Power Network’s Littlebrook substation and the project, including adherence to grid code compliance and UK Power Network’s requirements as the operator of the connection after they adopt it on completion.
4. Work collaboratively with other disciplines in accordance with the company’s procedures to contribute to multi-disciplinary projects, leading them when required.
5. Contribute to ensuring that effective internal/external working relationships are established and maintained with business partners, contractors, and suppliers.
6. Ensure that confidentiality is observed and maintained when dealing with private/confidential correspondence, reports, statements, records, other documents, and information.
7. Ensure the effective use of company resources and sub-contract packages in accordance with individual project cost plans.
8. Prepare estimates for the implementation of electrical services.
9. Carry out site surveys to identify our HV electrical system needs and requirements, then making recommendations as necessary.
10. Produce and develop designs for electrical services.
11. Ensure that designs meet user requirements, cost limits, and time scales.
12. Contribute to the preparation of Health and Safety method statements and risk assessments in respect of construction work as required by the project to meet current legislation.
13. Co-ordinate with business partners, other disciplines, and members of the Projects and Maintenance Teams.
14. Produce tender enquiry documents in respect of contracts for the provision of electrical systems and/or services.
15. Assist in evaluating tender returns as required.
16. Monitor and comment on contractors' work as required on various plant projects and the EPC contract works.
17. Contribute to the Engineering Team by attending as and when required regular team meetings and courses to ensure that changes in legislation and Company policies are fully complied with.
18. Provide a professional and high-quality service in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures and assist in the review of standards and procedures to ensure a continuing improvement in the service provided to clients.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
* The post holder should have at least a HNC in Electrical Engineering together with at least ten years post-qualification experience, with sound organizational, communication, interpersonal, and Customer Care skills.
* Broad experience in the design, installation, and management of electrical systems.
* The post holder must have a working knowledge of current legislation and practices in all elements associated with Electrical installations.
* To be fully conversant in the following:
o Power and distribution systems
o Lighting Design
o Fire alarm Design
o Security and CCTV Systems
o Health and safety legislation
o Design Calculations Software
* Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure, and on own initiative.
Highly Desirable (but not essential):
* To have a working knowledge in the following:
o To be computer literate
o Computer Aided Design Techniques
o Experience of Quality systems to BS EN ISO 9001
o Possess good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate well at all levels and be able to control certain financial aspects of contracts and/or projects
o Experience in the planning, organizing, and control of sub-contractors, be able to provide services to agreed standards, time scales, and budgets.
o Have experience in the high technology or industrial sector of mechanical services design
o Evidence of continuing professional development and an ongoing commitment to undertake training and studies to meet the demands of both current and future legislation relating to the design of building services
o CIBSE Membership at any grade
o The post holder should possess a current driving license.
